I keep seeing these threads popping up about how awful Java FX is, despite the fact that they don't seem to have used it in any sort of major project. HSGEP library and programs: Gene Expression Programming evolutionary algorithm in Haskell huff library. One of our team managed to port several pieces of functionality over in his spare time to give the head of development an idea of what it would be like. hpylos program: AI of Pylos game with GLUT interface. The application is way more responsive now, and much easier to optimize (imho) with flight recorder. This was the reason that I suspect swayed it really, the business wanted access to some specific functionality, and we weren't able to provide it without migrating. There is simply stuff you cannot do in a browser sandbox, there are certain native APIs particularly related to security that you just don't have access to there. We're a Java shop, we use Java for everything else, so FX really doesn't require learning a lot of new concepts, and having only one language to write in makes it easier to bring people in from outside to quickly pick up the work. We were using backbone/marionette, and in particular, the event bubbling model was an absolute stinker to debug when something went wrong. We all hated using javascript-heavy front-end frameworks. A quite recent but common request from our SharkScope users is to be able to colour statistics according to SharkScope statistics, which are often neither percentage-based, nor inaccurate until a certain number of hands for the player are in your local Poker Copilot database. I never really considered Java for GUI's because it always felt just not right, there were so many glitches and unexpected behaviours that it basically wasn't an option. I like Java a lot, I use it every day but for servers and web applications.
